ROGERS AWARDED SCHOLARSHIP FROM HEREFORD YOUTH FOUNDATION OF AMERICA

Not present at the awards luncheon was James Brody Rogers, Hamilton, Texas. He is the 2021 recipient of the Merry Family/MGM Memorial Scholarship.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — High achieving Hereford youth were awarded numerous scholarships during the 2021 American Hereford Association Annual Meeting and Conference in Kansas City, Mo., on Oct. 22. In a special awards ceremony, the Hereford Youth Foundation of America (HYFA) and its army of donors proudly awarded $160,000 in scholarships to 24 National Junior Hereford Association members to help support their higher-education goals.

The 2021 Merry Family/MGM Memorial Scholarship of $2,500 sponsored by HYFA is dedicated to students pursuing a degree in veterinary medicine and carries on the legacy of Gordon and Marian Merry from Wisconsin. MGM Polled Herefords believes the future of agriculture lies in the hands of our industry’s hard-working youth, and the Merry family recognizes the dedication required from young people to raise and exhibit livestock and rewards juniors who are passionate about Hereford cattle annually with this scholarship.

James Brody Rogers from Hamilton, Texas, is the $2,500 Merry Family/MGM Memorial Scholarship winner. James Brody Rogers is starting his first year at Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine and would like to obtain his DVM degree without loans to pay back after graduation. Regardless of where his career takes him, the coronavirus pandemic showed him the importance of planning ahead and being better prepared to adapt.

The scholarship fund is the cornerstone of HYFA and countless youth are the benefactors of its mission. This last fiscal year, the foundation celebrated net assets reaching an all time high of 5.4 million dollars and $186,000 was given back to Hereford youth to assist with their college educations.
