Foundation 1 Lot Tops Western States Hereford Sale

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — To kick off the 2023 Hereford Season of Giving, The Western States Hereford Sale, Dec. 1, in Reno. Nev., led off with a special lot dedicated to the Hereford Youth Foundation of America (HYFA) and the Foundation 1 Campaign. Brumley Farms, Orovada, Nev., longtime supporters of Hereford youth, consigned a lot in the national sale for the second year in a row, with half of the proceeds earmarked for the foundation and supporting Hereford youth.

Brumley Farms offered lot 2, BF 8029 2020 Barbara 342L. The February heifer calf was purchased by Chapman Land and Cattle of Nunnelly, Tenn., for $40,000, with $20,000 of the proceeds from the SR Rio Bravo 8029 ET daughter being donated to the foundation’s education pillar to benefit the upcoming Junior National Hereford Expo that will be held in Grand Island, Neb.

The Brumley family knows the importance of helping the next generation. Kari Brumley and her siblings grew up in the National Junior Hereford Association and experienced much success throughout their junior show careers. “It is important to us to always give back to those who have had such an impact, on not only our family, but so many families involved with the Hereford breed,” Kari says.

“HYFA offers a sincere thank you to the Brumley family for stepping up to the plate and consigning one of their best and to the Chapman family and newest Foundation 1 partner for their unwavering support of Hereford youth,” Amy Cowan, Director of Youth Activities and Foundation for the American Hereford Association says. “These families go above and beyond time and again for HYFA’s mission and their commitment and support keeps HYFA’s momentum at an all-time high as we wrap up an incredible year of growth for the foundation in 2023.”

The Foundation 1 Campaign was initiated with the intent that a percentage of sale proceeds would be donated to HYFA as a way for organizations, families and ranches to support the Hereford youth and the future of the breed. Since the campaign’s inception in 2017, more than $300,000 has been generated from proceeds of production sales, donation lots, semen sales, artwork and more.
