Caldwell and Dunn Named Recipients of the second Livestock Marketeers Scholarship

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Creed Caldwell, Parker, Kan., and Preston Dunn, St. John, Kan., recently received $1,500 scholarships from the Livestock Marketeers, an organization of livestock marketing professionals. Livestock Marketeers Scholarships go to college-age students interested in pursuing a career in the livestock marketing industry.

Caldwell is a fifth-generation commercial cattle producer who grew up in the cattle business. His family operates a 150 head cow-calf operation. A member of the National Junior Angus Association, he established his own seedstock Angus operation in 2017 and currently markets bulls as a cooperator with Hinkle's Prime Cut Angus, Nevada, Mo. Caldwell plans to grow his registered Angus herd while also working in the livestock industry. Ultimately, he wants to own a large seedstock operation that markets 200-300 bulls each year. He also wants to pursue experience with a breed or livestock association. Caldwell is beginning his sophomore year at Kansas State University, majoring in animal science and pursuing an agribusiness minor.

Dunn also grew up in the cattle business. He graduated from the Western College of Auctioneering in 2022. He continues to hone his auctioneering craft, watching and learning from established auctioneers. Dunn also is a senior at K-State, where he dual majors in animal science and agricultural economics with a minor in business. He was a 10-year member of the American Gelbvieh Junior Association and served on its board of directors. He was also a member of the Junior Red Angus Association. Dunn’s career goals include becoming a purebred livestock auctioneer, while  also selling equipment, working as a ring man and giving back to 4-H and FFA by working benefit auctions.

The Livestock Marketeers Scholarship fund was established in 2023 with $23,000 raised at its annual Hall of Fame Banquet. Livestock Marketeers has now surpassed $50,000 in support, ensuring this scholarship will continue for generations to come. Along with an interest in pursuing a career in the livestock marketing industry, Livestock Marketeers scholarships require affiliation with a livestock organization.

The Hereford Youth Foundation of America (HYFA) manages the Livestock Marketeers scholarship fund. Contributions to the fund can be made via Amy Cowan, HYFA director, at acowan@hereford.org. Applications for the 2026 scholarships will open in the spring and be due on April 15, 2025.
