The Hereford Night in OKC National Sale, hosted Jan. 5, at the 2024 Cattlemen’s Congress in Oklahoma City, featured not one, but two special lots, dedicated to HYFA, made possible by C&L Hereford Ranch, Oleson Family Farm and T/R Cattle Company. After the gavel fell, $87,000 from these lots went to supporting the foundation’s pillars of scholarship and education. These lots were sold to Chapman Land & Cattle, Nunnelly, Tenn., Dry Creek Farms, Pell City, Ala., Abby Hill Farms, Ontario, Can. and Randy and Jay Peterson, Paris, Ill. We can’t thank all of these individuals enough for their faith in the future of the Hereford breed.
The first lot of the Hereford Night in OKC Sale, during the 2023 Cattlemen’s Congress, was a generous donation for the second year in a row by T/R Cattle Company, Glencoe, Okla. The lot raised $30,000 with a percentage of the proceeds going to HYFA, purchased by Cottonwood Springs Farm, Cedar, Mich. and Everhart Herefords of Waldron, Ind. Tim and Nancy Keilty and Bruce Everhart are long-time supporters of the mission of HYFA and were excited to give back in this way.
A New Tradition was made in Oklahoma City, Okla., during the Hereford Night in OKC sale at the 2022 Cattlemen’s Congress.
Thanks to generous donors and buyers over $100,000 was raised to continue the education and future of Hereford youth. Thanks to Chapman Land and Cattle for purchasing the Kentucky Derby Experience package and BioZyme Inc. and VitaFerm, for donating the complimentary flight for the experience. Another huge thank you to T/R Cattle Company for donating proceeds of lot 27, the highest selling female, to the Hereford Youth Foundation of America and GKB Cattle for purchasing this outstanding heifer. It is because of donors like these that our junior Hereford members will continue having more opportunities to succeed.
The Lot 1 Foundation Female highlighted the national Hereford sale during the National Western Stock Show for more than a decade and has raised a total of $960,000 to support HYFA’s mission. In 2021 when the National Sale moved to Cattlemen’s Congress in Oklahoma City, Lot 1 featured a Pick of Paintings that was purchased by Bar One Ranch George and Karen Sprague. In 2022, HYFA is proud to offer Lot 1 and Lot 27 in the Hereford Night in OKC. Funds raised by the HYFA Lots go towards encouraging, recognizing and rewarding the development of life skills and values in the next generation of leaders.

New Mexico Lady was purchased by Whitey and Weyman Hunt of Innisfail Farm, Madison, Ga.
“It’s important to invest in Hereford youth in order to keep [the breed] moving forward. They are our future and we’ve got to support them in every way and guide them and let them guide us as well,” Whitey Hunt says. “The National Junior Hereford Association is a great opportunity for young people to learn skills of working with people, communication and you could go on and on. The young people who are in Denver, they are our future and they are the ones who are going to be our leaders.”
PCC New Mexico Lady 8170 was donated by Pérez Cattle Co., Nara Visa, N.M. The March 7, 2018, heifer is a daughter of NJW 79Z 22Z Mighty 49C ET.
“The Hereford breed is rich with traditions and the Lot 1 Foundation Female that headlined the national sale in Denver was definitely no exception,” says Amy Cowan, American Hereford Association director of youth activities and foundation. “This year, HYFA was fortunate to have two families step up to support Hereford youth, with the Pérez family on the donor side and the Hunt family on the buying side. As a past director of the National Junior Hereford Association [NJHA], Kyle Pérez appreciates the opportunities the Hereford junior program gave him as a youth and it is exciting that he and his wife, Tonya, are bringing their children, Peyton and Libby, up through the ranks of the NJHA. Innisfail Farms and the Hunt family know, too, that the junior program is a great resource for our kids, and I so appreciate Whitey and Weyman’s belief in the Foundation and for helping us make a difference for the next generation.”

The Queen was purchased by Hoffman Ranch, Thedford, Neb.; Upstream Ranch, Taylor, Neb.; HME Cattle Co., Winterville, Ga.; Hopper Herefords,Germantown, Ky.; and Cort Scheer, Bassett, Neb.
“I am a firm believer in the youth of the whole world,” Scheer said. “I do a lot of bronc schools to help people in rodeo, and it was my honor to go in there and donate to this foundation. It is unbelievable what the foundation does to help the Hereford youth.”
LCC 6964 Queen Bee 43F ET was donated by Lowderman Cattle Co., Macomb, Ill., and Michelini Cattle Co., Peru, Ill. The April 5, 2018, heifer is a daughter of R Leader 6964.
