Biggs Wins Bud Snidow Hereford Award

MADISON, Wis. — National Junior Hereford Association (NJHA) member Molly Biggs, Dixon, Ill., was awarded the $2,500 Bud Snidow Award at the 2023 VitaFerm® Junior National Hereford Expo (JNHE) Hereford Youth Foundation of America (HYFA) Scholarship, Award and Maroon Jacket Ceremony on July 13 in Madison, Wis.

Molly Biggs will be a senior at Kansas State University, majoring in agricultural communications and journalism with dual minors in animal sciences and industry and mass communication. She is focused on a career in the agricultural industry, advocating for the livestock industry and increasing transparency between producers and consumers.

“It is the job of agricultural communicators to help bridge the gap between farm to fork and share the stories of the 1% that feeds the 100%,” Biggs said. “Using my journalism, photography, videography, design and social media skills, I aim to reach audiences of all kinds and share the story of agriculture.”

Each year the National Hereford Women (NHW), honor Bud Snidow, past American Hereford Association employee and Hereford historian, with a custom hand crafted buckle. It is awarded to a commendable NJHA member who demonstrates the characteristics Snidow admired most — honesty, fairness, hard work, enthusiasm and dedication to the Hereford breed and its members. This is the first year the scholarship has accompanied the buckle.

“I had the pleasure of serving for the first time on the selection committee for Hereford youth scholarships,” said Cameron Kolinski, NHW. “I was beyond impressed by all of the applicants. There is no doubt in my mind that the future of the Hereford breed is in good hands with these outstanding juniors.”

HYFA awarded $29,000 to outstanding Hereford youth at the 2023 JNHE, and will award more than $200,000 throughout the year to deserving junior members to aid in their academic endeavors.
