McFatridge Wins Bud Snidow Hereford Scholarship

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. —Logan McFatridge, National Junior Hereford Association (NJHA) member from Otterbein, Ind., received the $2,500 Bud Snidow Award at the 2024 Vitaferm®Junior National Hereford Expo (JNHE). The award was presented during the Hereford Youth Foundation of America (HYFA) Scholarship, Award and Maroon Jacket Ceremony on July 11 in Grand Island, Neb.

McFatridge will be a senior at Purdue University majoring in agribusiness. After graduation, McFatridge plans to pursue a career in the beef industry with a goal of becoming a cattle buyer. McFatridge also hopes to play an active role in his family’s cattle operation.

“The NJHA and HYFA have had a huge role in growing me as a person and to have the opportunity to receive a scholarship through our organization is a blessing to me,” McFatridge said. Each year, the National Hereford Women (NHW) honor Bud Snidow, a former employee of the American Hereford Association and a noted Hereford historian, with a custom buckle and scholarship. This buckle is awarded to an exemplary NJHA member who embodies the qualities Snidow valued most: honesty, fairness, hard work, enthusiasm and dedication to the Hereford breed and its community. Cameron Kolinski served on the interview panel for the scholarships representing the NHW. “Some of these juniors left me speechless during their interviews,” Kolinski said. “Each year the pool gets stronger, making judging more challenging as they are all deserving. These juniors possess a passion for others in the industry and give credit where it is due. I think the Hereford industry is in excellent hands with these young members, and the future is bright.”

HYFA awarded $40,000 to outstanding Hereford youth at the 2024 JNHE and will award more than $200,000 throughout the year to deserving junior members to aid in their academic endeavors.
